What we recover

What counts as unclaimed property?

When a bank, employer, insurer or company can't reach the owner of money it holds, Texas law requires it to turn that money over to the state. Common examples include:

Bank accounts

Dormant checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit and cashier's checks.

Uncashed checks

Final paychecks, vendor payments, rebates and refund checks that were never cashed.

Insurance & investments

Life insurance proceeds, policy refunds, stocks, dividends and mutual fund balances.

Deposits & credits

Utility and rental deposits, overpayments, account credits and safe deposit box contents.

Questions

Common questions

Yes. Texas lets owners search and file claims directly with the Comptroller, at no cost. Many people come to us because they don't have time to search and file, their claim needs extra documentation, or they're claiming for an estate or a business. We handle all of that for you.

Individuals pay a flat $49.99 per claim, for claims of $500 or more. For businesses, the fee depends on the size of the claim: claims from $1,000 to $1,999 are a flat $99.99, claims from $2,000 to $7,999 are a flat $199.99, and claims of $8,000 or more are 10% of the amount recovered. Before we file anything, we'll show you what we found and put the fee in writing in a client agreement, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and signed it.

Yes. We take on individual claims of $500 or more and business claims of $1,000 or more.

It depends on how much documentation the claim needs. Simple claims can be paid within weeks, while estate and business claims can take several months. We keep you updated the whole way.

The claim is filed in your name or your business's name, as the rightful owner. Your client agreement explains exactly how payment and our fee are handled.

Yes. Estate and heir claims are a big part of what we do. We'll help you work out which documents Texas requires, such as a death certificate and proof of your right to claim.
